Excited children from seven Charitable homes recently gathered at the Bukit Bandaraya Community Hall for a special Buka Puasa dinner hosted by the Budimas Charitable Foundation. Dressed in their finest baju, the children filed into the expansive community home with all smiles, and waited patiently until the azan was recited by an imam on stage, giving the signal to break their fast with a few dates and malay kuih.
After the initial prayers were conducted in the adjacent hallways, children made their way back into the hall where a gorgeous spread of curries, nuggets, rice, fries and other meaty delights awaited. All the staff, as well as Foundation Trustees Datin Seri Maneesah Tunku Iskandar, Melewar Group Executive Chairman Tunku Dato’ Seri Iskandar Tunku Abdullah as well as Encik Steve Teoh, jumped in and helped dish out food for the children.
Before the end of the night, Datin Seri Maneesah gave the children presents of cookies and duit raya, all of them leaving with big grins across their faces. Furthermore, cheque presentations were made to each of the gathered foundations by the Budimas Trustees.
Aside from the consistently supported homes, such as Budimas Orion and Asrama Damai Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Kuang, Budimas has extended its helping hand to other welfare homes during this Raya season. In June 2015, Budimas commenced operations in a newly built home, Budimas Orion, in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan.
Currently Budimas is taking care of 23 children and looking into supporting another 127 abused children or children from underprivileged families. The foundation is also supporting 749 children from 14 other welfare homes nationwide by providing monetary support on a monthly basis.
Besides that, Budimas has also initiated the ‘Budimas Food Charity Fund’, which is now in its sixth year of operations. A total of 3,355 students in 56 schools are sponsored with daily nutritious breakfasts by Budimas, and as of February 2015, the foundation has also provided breakfast for refugee children.
Budimas also constructs and equips children’s libraries for the rural poor, particularly the Orang Asli communities. It built its first library at Kg Bukit Kepong, Port Dickson and started operations on 15 February 2015. A further two more libraries have been set up and slated to start operations in July and August 2015.
The Budimas Charitable Foundation is highly respected and under the royal patronage of DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong. It has spent the last 17 years working to improve the lives of children through these programmes, including the Budimas Education Charity Fund, Budimas Food Charity Fund and Budimas Home Charity Fund.
