The newest mall in KL celebrates its first festivity
One for the camera!
Sunway Putra Mall brought the joyful spirit of Raya into the mall with an Iftar (berbuka puasa or breaking of fast) session with the Yayasan Chow Kit children and invited guests from the surrounding area.

“As this is our first time celebrating the festive season, we’d like to do it together with our friends and neighbours, getting everyone together under one roof and strengthening the bond,” said CEO of Sunway Shopping Malls Mr HC Chan, adding that “It certainly gelled well with our theme ‘Weaving A Joyous Raya’, as we ‘weave’ and unite everybody from different backgrounds.”

Other prominent representatives of Sunway were present at the event, including Sunway Group Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman Hashim, Sunway Shopping Malls COO Mr Kevin Tan, and Sunway Putra Mall General Manager Ms Phang Sau Lian.
There were many exciting activities in the Main Atrium, located on Ground Floor of Sunway Putra Mall, where the children and their caretakers were entertained by caricatures, magic shows, Raya Jazz Band, learning the arts of anyaman (weaving) and many more.

The guests were then brought up to Level 4, where Selera Street, the mall’s main F&B precinct for the Iftar session. Everyone enjoyed the delicious array of dishes from Teochew Chendul, Ayam Penyet Express, Lorong Seratus Tahun, Popiah Club, and many more.
After having their fill, the Yayasan Chow Kit children were presented with goodie bags and tokens, besides receiving their duit raya. “Giving back to the society has always been a practice for Sunway Group, for the betterment of the community,” said Phang. “Upholding this custom, Sunway Putra Mall firmly believes that helping out and assisting those in need within its immediate area is indeed a priority”.

The “Weaving a Joyous Raya” theme sees the mall decorated with weaving motifs, reflecting the decor of traditional Malay houses. Located at the Main Atrium from 27 June until 16 July, the Joyous Raya Fair features offers and promos from participating outlets including Cold Storage, Onde-Onde, Xanse, Coreo and Pasu selling Hari Raya goodies and hampers, kuih-muih, cookies, jewelleries and home deco.

In addition to the slew of special offers during the 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival, shoppers are rewarded with the ‘Joyous Raya Redemptions’ when they spend RM150 (RM100 for Sunway PALS members) in two receipts, and they would receive a Dazzling Raya Scented Candle Set. By spending RM100 (RM80 for Sunway PALS members) in one receipt, they are entitled to redeem the Delightful Raya Packets, perfect for giving out ‘duit raya’ during the celebrations.
Further, shoppers will be serenaded with soothing music from the Raya Jazz Band every weekend and public holiday, from 27 June till 19 July at the Main Atrium, between 2 to 4 pm. They can also learn about the arts of anyaman from the Seni Anyaman Dem, which is on every weekend, from 27 June till 19 July at selected times. Have a taste of the local, traditional delicacy during the ‘Dodol Giveaways’ walkabout at 1, 3 and 5pm every weekend and public holiday, from 27 June till 19 July.
