It’s call time at two of KL’s major performing arts centres this March!

The performing arts scene is alive and well this month, with engaging shows around town that are sure to prompt a standing ovation come curtain call. Prominent among the list are offerings from esteemed venues Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) and Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC). Possessing enough variation between them, these productions can be combined into an excellent itinerary for the live performance aficionado!

<2020> & Kakak

Designed as a multidisciplinary performance, <2020> scrutinises time pathways that are rooted in science and creates a story with it. However, rather than draw up assumptions or forecasts of the future based on its predictability, it calls for action, believing that the story of what is to come is far from being set in stone. This heralds the call to change for a better tomorrow.

The housemaids – called kakak in local parlance – depicted in Kakak live lives that are beneath their employers. Therefore, to release themselves from the ‘oppression’, they resort to some role playing, assuming the character of their mistress when she’s not around. Soon, obsession trickles into their game, causing them to lose sight of their identity and resulting in some unwanted consequences.

Remedy

Harnessing its actors’ own experiences of therapy, Remedy looks at how we cope with the intricacies of daily life. With the help of a therapist, this play addresses the nuances of emotions and reasoning by providing a behind-closed doors look of a therapy session. Amanda Ang, Sandee Chew, Arief Hamizan, Alfred Loh, Esther Liew and Nabil Zakaria star in this thought-provoking EJA Productions and RELATE Therapy creation.

The Fortunettes – A Retro Musical

This popular retro musical is a bona-fide hall filler. It’s a simple enough plot; four chorus girls achieve overnight fame after a performance to replace their ‘missing’ diva, and The Fortunettes was born. They let loose one chart-topping album after another, but alas, the limelight dims and they part ways. Two decades pass, and their loyal fans just can’t wait to spy their lovely stars at their Reunion Concert. But will they show up?
