They say the best way to experience a city is by taking to its streets

Rather than just aimlessly walking through some of KL’s most famous districts, why not embark on one of the many free walking tours organised by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall for added value. These trails highlight some of the capital’s diverse cultural, heritage and historical treasures in a connected, experiential and engaging manner.

Sultan Abdul Samad Building

The knowledgeable guides on each tour divulge a wealth of untold secrets that bring to life the various areas and add a personal touch to each attraction – a guide book just can’t compare! Nowhere is this more evident than on the Kuala Lumpur Heritage Trail, happening every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in and around the hallowed grounds of Dataran Merdeka.

Kuala Lumpur City Gallery

The tour takes in 11 historical sites including the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the Masjid Jamek Mosque and the Cathedral of St. Mary. Persons and communities that shaped this colonial section of KL are weaved into the background as you make your way on the tour, which uncovers historical sites bit by bit, until the puzzle pieces start to form a coherent ‘big’ picture.

Kasturi Walk, Central Market and Petaling Street

You can experience much of this same walk under cover of dark on the recently introduced Kuala Lumpur Night Walk which stops by the Old Market Square, Masjid India Covered Street Bazaar, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman Night Market, Coliseum Cafe, Panggung Bandaraya and Dataran Merdeka. Meanwhile the Old KL & Nature walk is a 2.5 hour stroll that opens up more of KL’s old settlement clusters such as Central Market and Kastrui Walk, Petaling Street, the Loke

Chow Kit Mansion and the KL Forest Eco-Park – a centuriesold virgin tropical rainforest in the heart of the city that covers an area of 11 hectares.

Finally, Jalan-Jalan @ Kampong Bharu takes visitors through the seven villages of this traditional Malay enclave, stopping along the way to sample street food and soak up the sights and sounds of this charming settlement.
